B Countable and Uncountable Nouns

1.       Countable nouns
Examples
(a)    Countable nouns are nouns that can be counted. They have a singular form and a plural form.
Singular
(one) boy
(one) kitten
(one) car
(one) cow)
Plural
(two) boys
(two) kittens
(two) cars

2.       Uncountable nouns
Examples
(a)    Uncountable nouns are nouns that cannot be counted. They do not have a pural form.
Water, oil, salt, sugar, dirt, luggage, rice, air, sand

Nouns are words we use to name the people, places and things around us.


A Common & Proper Nouns

1.       Proper Nouns
Examples
(a)    A proper noun names a particular or special person,place or thing. Proper nouns always begin with a capital letter.
Gary, Kumar, Japan, Malaysia, Sunday, January
(b)   Some proper nouns are made up  of more than one word
Mr Chua, Joo Seng, Mount Kinabalu, Crocodile Farm
2.       Common Nouns
Examples
(a)    A common noun is the general name given to persons, places or things. Common nouns do not begin with a capital letter.
Boy, girl, woman, teacher, uncle, hill, airport, town, country,month, year
(b)   Some common nouns are made up of more than one word. They are known as compound nouns.
Brother-in-law, great-grandfather, passer-by
